SAP America is once again sponsoring an international scholarship program for undergraduate students at University Alliances member schools.
Last year, I am proud to announce that one of our very own students, Amanda Gowen, was a recipient of the SAP’s scholarship award! Information about this year’s program is available online at:
http://www.sap.com/usa/company/citizenship
The deadline is May 15th so don’t procrastinate!
"The program allows recruiters to view students' resumes, bios and course listings online."
When the USC career fair arrives, students often face the daunting dilemma of deciding how to divide their time among recruiters for various companies. USC's Information Technology Program might have found the solution to this task: an online portfolio that allows recruiters to view the resumes, bios, course lists and old projects of ITP students.
Last week, students in ITP minor or certificate programs began creating portfolios after the school sent out an e-mail notification that the program was ready for use.

Amanda Gowen, a Senior in Industrial Systems Engineering, has won the first SAP America Scholarship 2006-2007. The SAP America scholarship program’s goal is to recognize outstanding undergraduate students pursuing a degree in business, computer science, mathematics or engineering. Amanda was one of 10 students to win a $10,000 scholarship that is intended to assist students in defraying tuition expenses.
Amanda is pursuing an SAP Certificate at Information Technology Program (ITP) in the Viterbi School of Engineering. SAP is the world’s largest provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. ITP has been a pioneer in providing students an opportunity to learn and apply ERP solutions in business and engineering. Since 1997, ITP has developed one of the most extensive ERP curricula at a University in North America. Professor Richard Vawter, with whom Amanda took her first SAP related course, comments: “From the time ITP at the Viterbi School of Engineering joined SAP’s Academic Alliance Program, USC has been recognized as a leader in incorporating ERP systems in courses of study across all disciplines. This year SAP’s call for research papers was addressed to all University Alliance partners in both the United States as well as Canada. Amanda was the first of my students who chose to conduct a research project on the SAP ERP system outside of class. I was excited by her findings and ideas. I am quite proud of Amanda, not only by her performance in class, but also by her professionalism outside of class. I look upon Amanda as an ambassador for USC, exemplifying the quality of students that we have”.
ITP students used hacking skills to defend own, infiltrate peers' servers for midterm. When midterm season rolled around this year and most students were complaining about the exhausting nature of their exams, those in "Web Security" (ITP-325) were preparing for something more easily equated to a hacking competition with the goal of successfully infiltrating other groups' servers.
